Commission Warns Consumers about Utility Scams

ATLANTA, March 8, 2016 – The Georgia Public Service Commission is warning consumers to beware of telephone calls from persons claiming to be Georgia Power Company employees trying to collect payment for bills and threatening to disconnect their service.

The Commission is aware that consumers have received calls from persons purporting to be utility representatives and reminds consumers that Georgia Power does not ask for personal or financial information like a credit card, debit card, banking information, or social security numbers over the phone. One of the phone numbers used was (844) 523-9869.

These unscrupulous individuals have frequently targeted senior citizens in these utility scams.
