AT&T Error

Over 31,000 Georgians Affected by AT&T Billing Error

In response to a request made by the Georgia Public Service Commission (the Commission or PSC), AT&T indicated that 31,804 Georgians were billed a $3.95 monthly recurring charge in error.   A combination of system issues caused the billing error that affected approximately one million consumers nationally, many of whom were not current customers of AT&T (the Company).

According to information the Commission received from the Company in April 2004, of the 31,804 Georgia consumers impacted by the billing error, credits or refunds have been issued to 21,461 of these consumers.  AT&T expects to have issued credits or refunds to the remaining consumers by the end of May 2004.

Consumers (AT&T customers and non-AT&T customers) are encouraged to check their telephone bills for the last several months to determine if they were billed the erroneous $3.95 monthly recurring charge.  If you were billed the charge, contact AT&T at 800-222-0300.  Please allow at least two billing cycles after you speak with the Company for the credit or refund to be received.

The PSC would like to hear from you if the Company marketed its services to you when you called to inquire about the $3.95 monthly recurring charge, or if more than two billing cycles have passed and you have not received your credit or refund.   You may contact the Commission via email at gapsc@psc.state.ga.us, by fax at 404-463-6683, or call us at 1-800-282-5813 (outside metro-Atlanta), 404-656-4501 (local).
