Georgia Public Service Commission Votes on Atlanta Gas Light Rate Case

December 19, 2019 – (ATLANTA) The Public Service Commission, on Thursday, completed the Atlanta Gas Light rate case by voting unanimously for a motion filed by Commissioner Chuck Eaton that approves new rates but also requires the company to increase safety measures and customer service.

Georgia Public Service Commission Votes on Georgia Power Rate Case

December 17, 2019 – (ATLANTA) The Public Service Commission, on Tuesday, completed the Georgia Power rate case by voting for a stipulated agreement with Georgia Power combined with a motion drawn up by Commission Vice-Chair Tim Echols.

"While not perfect, much about our energy delivery system is top-drawer," Commissioner Echols said. "Smart meters allow instant reconnection — and many states do not have them yet. Georgia does. We have replaced all of our old cast iron and bare steel pipe underground. Many states have not. And we have prioritized a diverse energy portfolio treating the grid much like you do your 401(k). This approach helps us hedge against spikes in fuel prices or unintended consequences like we saw with the oil tanker crisis in the Middle East recently that sent gas prices soaring."

Upcoming Administrative Sessions to Determine AGL, Georgia Power Rate Cases

December 3, 2019 – (ATLANTA) This year, both Atlanta Gas Light and Georgia Power asked the Georgia Public Service Commission to increase rates on natural gas and electricity respectively.

After several hearings that included testimony from PSC advocacy staff, the two companies and dozens of intervenors, the elected PSC Commissioners are expected to make final decisions on the utilities’ requests this month. On Dec. 17, the Commissioners will vote on Georgia Power’s rate case. On Dec. 19, the commissioners will vote on Atlanta Gas Light’s rate case.

Georgia PSC Prominent in ‘Oscars’ of Energy Awards

September 26, 2019 – (ATLANTA) – Public Service Commission Chairman Lauren “Bubba” McDonald has been named a finalist for the Lifetime Achievement Award at the upcoming 21st annual S&P Global Platts Global Energy Awards. Commissioner Vice Chair Tim Echols has been named a finalist for the Individual Rising Star Award. Also in the running for Lifetime Achievement is former Georgia PSC Commissioner Stan Wise.

Established in 1999 and often described as “the Oscars of the Energy Industry,” the S&P Global Platts Global Energy Awards highlight corporate and individual innovation, leadership and superior performance in 21 categories spanning the entire energy complex.

Georgia PSC Begins Georgia Power Rate-Case Hearing on Monday

September 26, 2019 – (ATLANTA) – The Georgia Public Service Commission has scheduled a hearing on Georgia Power’s request for a rate increase. The hearing is scheduled to begin Monday, Sept. 30, continue Tuesday, Oct. 1, and will conclude on Wednesday, Oct. 2 if not concluded earlier.

Each day, the hearing will be held from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in the first floor Hearing Room, 244 Washington Street, SW, Atlanta, GA 30335.
